Lumineers

Lumineers are a type of dental veneers that are made from a special type of porcelain called Cerinate. Lumineers is a brand-name of the Den-Mat Corporation. Lumineers are commonly used to correct chipped teeth. They are also used to correct uneven gaps in between the teeth and teeth discoloration. Recently, more and more people are opting for Lumineers due to the various advantages they offer.

One of the major advantages of using Lumineers is that they are very thin and for this reason, teeth need not be ground down before installing them. They can be placed over the teeth without removing layers of enamel. The procedure to install Lumineers is also simpler when compared to traditional porcelain veneers. In the case of traditional porcelain veneers, a layer of enamel is removed first before installing the veneer in place. This is known as tooth preparation. However, Lumineers are very thin and so this step is not required. The procedure is also less painful. Many people prefer Lumineers over traditional porcelain veneers because of this advantage.

Lumineers are also less costly when compared to porcelain veneers. They usually cost 25% less. However, the cost will differ from dentist to dentist and depend on the condition of the patient’s teeth. Usually, Lumineers can cost anywhere from $1000-$2000 per tooth.

Despite the various advantages of Lumineers, they also have some drawbacks. One of the major disadvantages of Lumineers is that they can be difficult to hide. They will easily be visible externally if the procedure is not performed properly. Since the tooth is not prepared, after installing the Lumineers the tooth may appear a little bigger and out of place. It takes a lot of skill on the part of the dentist to perfectly match the Lumineers with the surrounding teeth. A small bump may also develop at the junction where the Lumineers meet the teeth. In conventional veneers, the junction is very smooth. This bump can lead to other problems down the road such as staining and tooth decay.

If you have to choose between Lumineers and porcelain veneers, it is always advisable to opt for the former. This is because they are cheaper and also have more advantages when compared to the latter.
