Cost-effective alternatives to teeth whitening procedures

Teeth whitening procedures are very effective in restoring the normal color of your teeth. They can remove stains caused by a number of factors such as smoking, alcohol consumption, foods such as tea or coffee, mineral deficiencies and improper oral hygiene. However, the major disadvantage with teeth whitening procedures is that they are comparatively costly. You don’t have to worry because there are alternatives — many of these can be found in your kitchen!

Home-based teeth whitening solutions are not only effective but also very cheap because you can find all the required ingredients in your kitchen. They are very safe and do not have any side effects that are associated with chemical products. The only minus point is that it can take some time for results to be evident. Home-based teeth whitening solutions take time and patience is the key.

Here are some common home-based solutions that provide effective results:

Baking soda and hydrogen peroxide: Both baking soda and hydrogen peroxide are mild bleaching agents. It is true that industrial hydrogen peroxide is very strong. However, hydrogen peroxide that is found in conventional medical stores is very mild and so doesn’t have any side effects.

To use this remedy, take a pinch of baking soda and add a few drops of hydrogen peroxide solution to it. Mix to make a paste. Apply the paste to the teeth and let it remain for some time. Brush your teeth afterwards to remove traces of hydrogen peroxide. You should use this regularly for at least one week for results to visible.

Sea salt: Sea salt is an abrasive that can remove surface level stains. Just massage a pinch of sea salt to your teeth twice a day. You will see effective results within a few days. Alternatively, you can also mix a pinch of salt to your toothpaste and brush your teeth with it.

Apart from these, you should also maintain proper oral hygiene. Improper oral hygiene is one of the leading cause of staining and discoloration. You should also avoid foods such as tea or coffee. If you smoke, it is better to quit. It not only causes teeth discoloration but also affects your health adversely.
